OVERVIEW ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC SITUATION

IN SOC TRANG IN 2023

The 2023, socio-economic activities of the country in general and
of Soc Trang province in particular were performed in the context of a

fast-changing, complex and unpredictable developments of the global
situation. Russia - Ukraine war and Israel - Hamas conflict were
increasingly complicated. Viet Nam’s economy was affected by many
external factors, for instance, import and export activities were

influenced by a decline in demand from international markets, high input
prices put pressure on inflation control, and competitive pressure from
countries in the region was tough. In 2023, Soc Trang province was still
heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in all areas of economy, life,

and society; agricultural production faced many difficulties due to the
impact of climate change, unfavorable weather conditions, and prolonged
hot weather, affecting people’s production progress; enterprises’ business
and production confronted many difficulties; agricultural input prices

increased substantially; prices of some products were volatile, affecting
people’s production efficiency. Along with the management and
administration policies, drastic implementation of provincial leaders,
branches and agencies focusing on the main point in each economic field

gradually promoted the effectiveness of the Socio-economic recovery
and development program. The year 2023 (preliminary data) ended with
a general difficulty in the economic picture, but Soc Trang still achieved
positive achievements and results.

1. Economic growth

The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2023 at constant
2010 prices reached 40,757 billion VND, a year-on-year increase of

5.77%. Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by
