                             9.1. Labor and employment

In 2023, the labor market in Soc Trang province faced certain
difficulties because the production and business of enterprises (which
attracted a large number of employees) were generally affected by the
world and domestic economic situations, causing lack of orders and labor
cut-down in some enterprises. However, with the directions and efforts

of all-level authorities and localities, the province organized and
implemented well policies on vocational training and organized many job
fairs to support and introduce jobs for domestic and oversea workers.

In 2023, the average population in Soc Trang province was
1,198,798 persons. Of which, the labor force aged 15 and over reached
626, 860 persons, accounting for 52.29% of the total population; the
urban and rural labor force were 208,224 persons and 418,636 persons,
respectively, with the corresponding share of 33.22% and 66.78% in the

total labor force in the province. The difference between male and female
labor force was remarkable with 374,129 male employees, making up
                        59.68% and 252,731 female employees, comprising 40.32%.

The employed labor force was 608,358 persons, accounting for
97.05% of the total labor force. Although the employees were trained but
unmet the requirements of the provincial labor market. The labor market
was still unstable with many daily and seasonal employees. Besides,
some enterprises had difficulties in selling goods with reduced orders,

which required time to exploit and search for new consumer markets,
thus reducing the demand for labor.
In 2023, there were 29,412 jobs created, exceeding 5.04% of the

plan; 344 oversea contracted-employed employees, exceeding 14.67% of
the plan. 15,833 persons were provided with job training (of which, 430
persons at college-degree level, 313 persons at intermediate level, 5,234
persons at elementary level, 8,605 persons with under-3-month training
                        and 1,251 regular-trained persons).
